Howard Read is a writer, stand-up comic and animator.
Last year the first film he wrote (Rabbids Invasion: Mission To Mars, Neflix/FTV) got nominated for an International EMMY. His sketch, song writing and script editing helped CBBC’s Horrible Histories win a BAFTA for best comedy in 2019 and he was part of the writing team nominated for the Best Writer award (in both 2018 and 2019). His CBBC series Little Howard’s Big Question won the 2011 Writer’s Guild Award for Best Children’s Script. His live shows with his animated cartoon side-kick Little Howard have been nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award (then Perrier in 2003). In 2007 his comic songs saw him placed as joint runner-up in the inaugural Tuborg Musical Comedy Awards and, as an animator his short Polar Bears In A Snowstorm won him a BBC New Comedy Award.
As a writer Howard has created his own comedy series Little Howard’s Big Question (CBBC), Two Posh Old Men (UKTV), Birds On A Wire (Paramount) and Peacefully In Their Sleeps (BBC Radio 4). He’s written an award-winning film Rabbids Invasion: Mission To Mars and contributed to innumerable series including Horrible Histories (Lion/CBBC winning BAFTAs and a Rose D’Or), Danger Mouse (CBBC), Dennis And Gnasher Unleashed (CBBC), The Amazing World Of Gumball (Cartoon Network) and The Furchester Hotel (Sesame/CBeebies) among many more. He recently wrote the official film that explained King Charles’ coronation to the UK’s primary school children and is currently working on several children’s shows and is helping develop new ones for companies in Ireland and the Netherlands. Howard is also developing several shows for comedy and drama.
As a live performer how still regularly works as a stand-up on the UK comedy circuit and abroad and on family friendly shows like Comedy Club 4 Kids. His live shows with Little Howard have toured internationally, on cruise ships, at festivals, been nominated for the biggest award in UK comedy and appeared on the Royal Variety Performance.
Howard has also contributed animations to live shows for several Ross Noble tours, films by Isabelle Faye and Andrew O’Neill, Project Twist It and most recently animated a sentient tadpole for Face Front Theatre’s touring show The Hero Next Door.
