Gez Mercer

Gez Mercer is a self-taught musician, dancer, and natural-born punk who has carved his own unique path in musical theatre and the arts, evolving into a multi-talented artist with a focus on the intersections of pop culture, social issues, politics and the empowering essence of being an outsider.

Gez attended University of Leeds, where he studied Theatre and Performance graduating in 2011 before going on to sell-out runs in 2012 and 2013 for his electro-punk musical FACEHUNTERS and another in 2014 for Americana. The latter would later evolve into the Billie the Kid.

Billie the Kid, his fourth full-length musical, recently enjoyed its west end premier at the Vaudeville Theatre in  London, going onto build a strong and fervent fan base.

In 2018, Gez became a founding member of Fat Blokes Dance Company, an award-winning collective led by performance artist Scottee and choreographer Lea Anderson MBE in their national sell-out show, Fat Blokes.

Gez earned the Cameron Macintosh Award for Musical Theatre at NSDF 2014, as well as the West End Producer’s Twitter Composer Award in 2013.  Gez emerged as a finalist in the Stiles and Drew Prize 2018, was also shortlisted for the Mercury Musical’s Cameron Mackintosh resident composer and has worked as a visiting artist on the MA musical theatre program at Central school of Speech and Drama.

Gez’s work is a sonic and visceral exploration of the human experience, delving into the rich tapestry of pop, EDM, grunge, and punk. His music resonates with undeniably distinct hooks, blending the pathos and poetry of grunge with the infectious energy of punk.
