Before focusing on writing and directing, Dan began his career as a comedian and actor.
He’s probably best known for playing loveable loser Don Danbury in the cult hit
BBC comedy How Not To Live Your Life, which ran for 3 seasons
and a Christmas Special. As well as starring in the show, he wrote
every episode and directed the first series.
As a stand-up comedian, Dan performed at multiple Edinburgh
Festivals, enjoying sold-out runs and rave reviews. He’s also toured
the UK multiple times and performed in the US.
In 2016 Dan decided to turn his attention to a career behind the
camera.* He began by directing two award winning short films,
and two Channel 4 pilots (both picked up for series) and in 2021
he wrote and directed his debut feature film, A Kind of Kidnapping,
which premiered at the Manchester International Film Festival,
winning three major awards, including Best Feature Film and Best
Screenplay. The film was released on 13th July 2023, with a
limited cinema run and then VOD.
* He may return to performing one day, but right now he’s enjoying
his new job too much.
