Acknowledged to be one of the greatest adapters for television, Arthur is best remembered for his adaptations of HARD TIMES; TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY; BLEAK HOUSE; A TALE OF TWO CITIES and A PERFECT SPY.
Arthur’s major two-part television adaptation of Daphne DuMaurier’s REBECCA screened at the beginning of January ’97 on the ITV network, a Portman Hannibal/Carlton production starring Charles Dance, Diana Rigg and Faye Dunaway.
In 1986 Arthur was honoured by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts with a special Writer’s Award.
