THE RUSSIAN CONCUBINE by Kate Furnivall

The Russian Concubine is a great story of love, loss and conflicting loyalties in a fascinatingly precarious moment in history.

1928. Exiled from Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution, the beautiful and fieryLydia and her aristocratic mother, Valentina, have taken refuge in an international settlement in Junchow, China. With destitution looming, Lydia realises that she must use her wits to survive and resorts to stealing.

On a trip into the old Chinese town to look for victims to pickpocket Lydia falls into the hands of the Black Snake Triad and is only saved by Chang An Lo, a young Chinese Communist who is being hunted down by government troops. The two fall in love despite the strictures of the white colonial settlement and the danger from the triads and troops that are pursuing them. They face betrayal, kidnap and prejudice as their love is tested to the limits.
